Having practiced Yoga for over 7 years, it has given me a new way to view life, interact with those around me, find skills to manage stress, and have a constant connection to others no matter where I go. This profound practice ultimately led me to receiving my 200-hour yoga certification with Yoga-Renew in January of 2023. While my certification was centered around Hatha and Vinyasa Yoga, I have worked diligently with teachers who specialize in Yin Yoga, Bikram, Power, and Restorative.
Living along the CT shoreline where Yoga is very popular, I was able to work with several different yoga studios and teachers to explore the many different teaching strategies, learning to create strong connections to my students, and how to cater to each different class. My classes tend to draw from the faster paced flows to interconnect constant movement with breath and work to control the mind in times of discomfort.
How I view yoga is the way I view life. In life it may feel as if things are too fast paced, we may feel discomfort or strong emotions but we must always remember that as time grows on, there will be a time of stillness and peace. We are not stuck in these poses forever, and through proper breathing the discomfort can be lessened. By stepping in that door for class, you already took the first step to self-improvement, self-care, and connection to oneself and others.
Along with practicing and teaching yoga, I am a senior at the College of the Holy Cross where I am currently majoring in Economics and am a member of the NROTC unit (USMC Option). I have taught Yoga at the Holy Cross Fitness Center for two years, and I have been a substitute Yoga teacher for a teacher who runs summer beach Yoga session during the summer in my town. I have also introduced Yoga to the NROTC Battalion at my college, and will be conducting regular sessions this year.
Living at the shoreline, I’m able to spend time walking on the beach with my dog, going paddleboarding, reading with my toes in the sand, and watching some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I’m an avid runner, have run a marathon and I’m currently in training for a triathlon.
Fun Fact: After gradating USMC Officer Candidate School this summer (2024), I took a fulltime job with a stone mason in my town and learned how to build stone patios and walls. I was also able to better my Spanish by interacting with a mostly Spanish-speaking crew!
